PFAS has been linked in human studies to some cancers, thyroid disorders, elevated cholesterol and other diseases. PFAS is an abbreviation for polyfluoroalkyl substances and multiple compounds fall under the PFAS umbrella. The EPA has issued a health advisory for two specific compounds, PFOA and PFOS, which have both been found in excess of the EPA advisory level of 70 parts per trillion in northern Kent County.
Due to these recent concerns, Grand Home Inspection has teamed up with a local laboratory to offer PFAS sampling and analysis. GHI will ensure collection is in compliance with EPA 537 PFAS Field Sampling Guidelines, which describes appropriate sampling procedures, collection vessels, and transportation requirements. EPA 537 also describes how to avoid false positives, such as common attires that can contaminate the samples.
Once Grand Home Inspection has completed sampling, laboratory analysis will be available in approximately 10 days. The map below shows areas under investigation for PFAS. If you’re considering a home in one of the areas of investigation, PFAS sampling can help ensure your family’s health is protected.
